This bike is a hoot!
I would have written a review sooner, but we
were too busy having fun with it.
A lot of people enjoy bike riding, but there
are some little annoyances - that strong headwind,
a big hill, a sudden stop where you did not
have time to downshift - things like that can
take some of the fun out of riding.
This bike solves all the above problems, plus a
few more.
It is like a normal trail bike, but with
a pair of robot legs attached. You get on, you
start pedalling, and suddenly you feel yourself
going forward with little to no effort! It
completely changes the biking experience. Even if you
think you are too "macho" to want a power boost,
you will find yourself using it. There is a
really nice feeling when you get back up to speed
after a stop, without putting out any effort!
Or zooming along 10 mph faster than you normally would...
Receiving the bike and putting it together took me
less than an hour. Be sure you re-tighten the rear
axle locknuts - all of the force that moves you forwards
is also forcing the rear axle to counter-rotate.
Then just ride like normal. If you want an extra
boost, twist the right handle. If you want to ride
without assistance, keep one finger on a brake -
either brake cuts off the power - just like shutting
off cruise control on a car.
My big worry in ordering this was that it would
turn out to be underwhelming in the power or
stamina department. Thanks to a good design and
a stellar battery, there is power well beyond what
R Martin promises. Even after 20 miles of riding
with assist - part of that not even pedalling,
the power was still on "max". I don't have a
lot of hills here, but i weigh 220 lbs. The bike
has definitely not disappointed in the power
or stamina department.
People i would suggest this bike to:
Guys would want to ride with their girlfriends/wives but want them to keep up.
People who like to ride for transportation and don't like to
show up with a socially-unacceptable amount of sweat on them,
or who don't have the legs to go as far as they need.
Guys with suspended licenses (legally, this is a bicycle).
Girls who ride alone and need to leave annoying horny guys in their dust.
Anyone wanting to make trips to the local market without driving.
I have modified this bike with a bouncy seat and a rear basket;
the seat it comes with is meant for a more hard-riding style.
The basket makes carrying that beer and pizza oh-so-convenient.
