Radio Flyer Scoot 2 Skate Review

Radio Flyer Scoot 2 Skate
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My soon to be 6 year old son wanted, in his words- a "skateboard with a handle on it". I poked around, and a bit disappointed in what Toys r Us was offering, found this very stylish board on Amazon. The price was in the mid $30s and I thought it seemed like a good deal. By the time I actually purchased it the price had gone to 39.99. A true skateboard with removable handle (rather than a scooter style toy) are hard to find, so I was not too concerned about the price.
My first impression of the board when it arrived: The deck is well crafted, a 7 or 9 ply board more than strong enough to hold any child without strain, and the handle was dense plastic and powder coated metal. The wheels are typical gummy rubber wheels not built for super speed, which is fine for a toy for this age group. The trucks are disappointing. As a former skateboarder in my youth, I know a bit about skateboard construction. Needless the say, I was more than a bit bummed to see completely plastic trucks on the board. Plastic uppers are common on budget skateboards, but the longer part of the truck that bears the weight of the rider over the wheels is made of plastic as well. Fine for a 6 yr old, not so fine for when their older brother decides to jump on, or for when the child themselves is older and wants to use it as a regular board, since that's what the manufacturer is marketing it as.
I was also a bit miffed that the grip tape strips on the top had peeled loose where the deck bends upward at each end, as if the material itself had contracted/shrunk after application. Returning the board was not an option so close to my son's birthday, and he would not have been happy with anything else anyway. I brainstormed. Trying to stick it back down was to no avail. I ended up peeling it up completely the last few inches at either end, applying some gorilla glue and sticking it back down. Its fine now. It was not a huge deal, but it seems silly to have to doctor a product before its ever even used.
Cons:
-Crappy trucks. If your kid wants to graduate to using this as a standard board for trick or just when they are heavier, plan on upgrading to some metal trucks (available online and at any skate shop)
-The grip tape not so well applied.
Pros:
-This wood deck is a great deck. I'm an overweight adult and with better trucks and wheels I could have ridden this board just fine. Its the one central piece of this board that should last beyond some of the other (replaceable) parts.
-The handle seems really sturdy
-My son instantly loved it and had a blast riding it. Glad to see him on a skateboard and not a razor sscoot, as this is the perfect step to have him on his way to riding a skateboard like his older brother, at his own comfortable pace.

Alas, the brake on the scooter was broken when I opened it. I spent about an hour trying to fix it and then boxed it up and returned it. I liked the look and the design of the scooter (and the price) but quality control at the final assembly was not adequate.

Huffy Toy Story 3 Scooter - White (6") Review

Huffy Toy Story 3 Scooter - White (6)

This scooter could not be assembled the way it was manufactured. The rear axle rod was 1/8 of an inch too short to screw on the nut (which was missing btw). I had to use a utility knife and shave 1/16 of an inch off of the inside of each wheel. Then I had to purchase the 6M (metric size) nut which was a little difficult to find.
I'm disgusted with the manufacturer and we haven't even got to play with it yet.

Razor Ground Force Electric Go-Kart Review

Razor Ground Force Electric Go-Kart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had a Power Wheels toy for my girls when they were 2 and 4. Now that my son was turning 4, I didn't want him driving around in a pink Barbie Jeep.
I went and bought the Ground Force but it is significantly faster - the Power Wheels tops out at 5mph (but also allows you to lock the speed to a max of 2.5mph), whereas the Ground Force has a max speed of 12mph.
I must say though, that I (a 40 year old man who weighs 165 pounds) LOVE this thing...It was fast, nimble and my neighbors got used to seeing me drive around the neighborhood. But, ahem, where was I? Oh yes, back to the kids.
My 6 and 9 year old daughters love this car since it is significantly faster than their old Power Wheel car. I was even able to take my 6 year old out with it when I went roller blading and she was able to keep up with me and then some (we went out for about an hour (so figure we went about 8-10 miles since we weren't going the full hour.
That being said, it is way too fast for my 4 year old...and even my 6 year old who knows how to drive was doing a series of figure 8's in the street at max speed and loving it...when she lost control and ran full speed into the curb...she was NOT a happy camper, although she wasn't seriously hurt.
The car does sit low though...so if a child were to run under an SUV...there is a very real chance the child could be seriously hurt though because their face would smack into the bumper...so PLEASE be mindful.
I allowed our friend's daughter who was 5 to drive the car in an very open field and she loved it...but ended up losing control as well and running into a play structure. She hurt hurt herself and broke the seatbelt because she panicked and went full speed into the structure...she wasn't seriously hurt...but I have definitely re-thought my stance about letting ANY child under 8 or 9 drive the cart by themselves.
Because there is no way to lock out the max speed...the children should be very carefully supervised. I do drive my 4 year old in my lap (and even drove him to pre-school one day in the morning (which he loved btw). Of course, I did look a bit stupid driving home in this go kart in the morning near the school...but my son was VERY excited! ;)
Please please be careful with this car with young children.

This has been a great purchase for my 14 year old of course my husband and I enjoy it too. I expected a little whine like the little kid power wheels but this bike is very quiet. The only issue we have had with the bike was when we got the bike the charger was set wrong so the bike didn't charge. We contacted x-treme and they helped us over the phone. This has been a great value. If you have a child who can't drive yet but has places to be this is great for them or if you like the feeling of a scooter but not the cost this electric bike does the trick. We estimate this bike to go 35-40 miles on a charge if you don't use the headlights. We are not sure how far with the headlights. We believe they do drain the battery a little faster but we haven't check the distance using the headlights the whole time. My family loves this bike. Why didn't they make cool stuff like this when I was a kid? I am so jealous of my daughter.

this is a very nice scooter for beginners. I purchased for a gift
for a 2 year old & watched him (try to) ride it. It is easy for
him to maneuver, sturdy & safe. It is less expensive than others of
the same quality. If they are going to outgrow it fast, save money &
buy less expensive until they can ride a bigger scooter....

Fuzion CityGlide 2-Wheel Scooter, Black

This scooter is all looks. The catch mechanism that locks it in the riding position failed with in a month of purchasing. Next stop for me is boxing it up and sending it back. It certainly isn't worth the price Amazon has on it. I've seen it at local retailers for about 1/3 that price, and I suspect they're just trying to dump the ones they have left to make room on the shelf for a product that actually works and holds up under normal use. I have no way to tell of course, but I'd bet the junk bins behind the return counters at scooter retailers everywhere are full of these things.

Razor V-17 Child Multi-Sport Helmet (Black Gloss) Review

Razor V-17 Child Multi-Sport Helmet (Black Gloss)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Customer support at [...] was very helpful in sorting through which model of V-17 helmet is for children 5+ (small shell) and which is for children 8+ (medium shell). The children 5+ small one is the one reviewed here and was only available online at the time of this purchase. The model number is 97780. If you want the small one be sure it has this model number as opposed to 97778 which is the bigger one for 8+ years old.
My son is almost 5 and still this helmet was pretty loose on him. It comes with two foam inserts, one is slightly thicker than the other. However, they are not meant to be used both at the same time. We have to use them both (safety pinned in) to make it snug. I wish this helmet came with inserts that were desinged to be added to the existing foam to make it tighter instead of designed to use one insert or the other. I later saw another 5+ helmet (may have been a Tony Hawk one) at Toys R Us that had much thicker foam padding and fit him tighter.
Still he loves the helmet and it looks sharp on him. It is of high quality in my opinion.
1/8/2010 update. Helmet still great for my 6.5 yr old son. BTW, if looking for the satin pink version of this helmet, the model number is 97784 and if looking for the matte black version of this helmet, the model number is 97785.
97780 - Child's gloss black
97785 - Child's matte black

I was worried that these pads might be too small for my seven year old, but they are very adjustable and look like they would fit kids much older and even smaller adults. The gel cushion seems like it will protect well.

Trikke T78 Scooter Review

Trikke T78 Scooter
Average Reviews:

I am glad to have purchased this item. Works well for my needs. Folds up and fits in the back end of my truck with ease. I can get it out during lunch and do a quick run around the parking lot at work. I get home from work late, at dusk, and hop on the Trikke for a quick 30 minute ride/workout around my neighborhood. Two drawbacks are: need more replective material for riding at night for drivers to see me; need to get the upgrade for pneumatic rear wheels. Holy buckets, talk about feeling every little bump in the road. If the the road is not cement, my hands and feet go numb after a while due to the vibration of the road.

VM Global Dinosaur Train 3-Wheel Scooter Review

VM Global Dinosaur Train 3-Wheel Scooter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So . . . not sure why my first review of this was not posted. When I recieved the item, it came in a box that had clearly been previously opened. Given that my invoice from amazon was inside the box, it's a given that amazon opened the box. How, upon opening it, they did not realize that the scooter was broken into numerous pieces is beyond me - and why they chose to ship a broken item is another story. This was especially disappointing because the scooter was going to be a birthday gift and we didn't have time to order a replacement and have it arrive in time.
I would give the product a 5 if it wasn't broken - however, the lower rating is due to this company knowingly selling a broken item. We ended up buying the same scooter elsewhere. Our niece loves it . . . and it arrived in tact.

Scandinavian Child Svan Wooden Toddler Scooter Tricycle Review

Remember how much fun it was to roll around using a very smooth office chair? This is similar but on a toddler level. Not only does my almost 2 year-old daughter love to roll around and go fast with her scooter, she likes to push her stuffed animals around on it too, although they have a more difficult time with falling off. She doesn't seem to mind. Costly but well worth it for the entertainment value and quality. We own just about everything Svan makes for kids (high chair, table and chairs) and they never disappoint.

Go-Ped Grow-Ped Kick Scooter (Multiple Colors) Review

Go-Ped Grow-Ped Kick Scooter (Multiple Colors)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm very happy with this scooter. The wheels are larger and the foot board has a higher ground clearance so it is safer than cheaper scooters. Your child is less likely to go flying if he or she hits a bump in the sidewalk. It has a hand break as well as a foot break, which is a nice option if a child gets flustered and has trouble working the foot break. Although my 4 foot tall 6 yo is large enough to use it, I think it will be even better in a couple years. The handle is not height adjustable but it does fold down. I'd say it is best for children between 4 and 5 feet. I'm 5' 2" and it is just a trifle too short for me (but I enjoy riding it anyway). I want the adult version!

Slider The Unscooter - U8 - Three Wheel Action Scooter - Black Review

Slider The Unscooter - U8 - Three Wheel Action Scooter - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife ordered a Slider from Amazon after seeing one while she was riding her bike. She thought it looked like a fun way to work out. It arrived quickly and was very easy to put together.
It took her a couple trips around the park to get her balance and technique. The instructions and videos on Unscooter.com show three different riding styles, and she is learning all of them. She has been riding it every day for a week now, and she's getting better all the time.
I was a serious cyclist for several years, and I recognize the quality of the components and engineering that went into the Slider. It is well made and I believe it will last many, many years.
I plan to order another U8 model for me and a smaller U5 for our 5 year old. I like it that much and recommend it to anyone who wants a fun and different way to excercise.

Currie Technologies e-Zip E400 Electric Scooter Review

Currie Technologies e-Zip E400 Electric Scooter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought these scooters for our kids for Christmas. While our kids are under the recommended age (7 and 9), we started our kids riding bikes and motorized toys very early in life so we had no concerns and we never let them ride anything unsupervised. I must say that I am very impressed with these scooters. My kids have ridden them almost non-stop. So far the only issue we've had is the kickstands have broken on both of them but they've been tanks in terms of build quality otherwise (they've crashed a few times). I was surprised with how much power they have and even move my 200 lb frame quickly on everything but steep inclines. I'll keep the review short and just do a summary list.
Pros:
- Power (with very smooth acceleration)
- Durability (except kickstand)
- Ride comfort (smooth ride and nice seat)
- Size (small enough for them but big enough for me and my wife)
- Charges faster than any similar motorized vehicle we own (still takes 5-6 hours from low though)
- Good battery life (given the performance...about and hour and a half was as long as we've lasted)
Cons:
- Heavy (makes lifting into our truck or car a workout)
- Brakes can require a fair amount of adjusting to get right
So far, I'm glad we chose this over the Razor E300.
