(More customer reviews)I live just close enough to work that I could take a bike instead of driving. The thing is, I sweat wayyyy too easily so I first considered a scooter. After some research, keeping up with maintenance, storage, and having to get a license if the scooter was 50cc+, I figured it wasn't worth it.
Then I came across some electric bikes. I did my research once again and found that domestic electric bikes are not as efficient as European. I got the latest model of this bike from REI[dot]com.
This bike comes with a wheel lock, a chain to lock the bike up, front LED light powered by the front wheel, and a back light that is powered by the vibrations of riding.
I just took the bike out today for about an hour (the longest I have used this bike so far) I probably road about 5 miles (maybe more) with many MANY hills and the battery still has about 3/4ths of a charge left.
Just to see how much I was being spoiled by this electric assisted motor, I turned off the battery at one point and it was so difficult. That's how you know you get your moneys worth!
Anyways, the way the bike works is that the moment you start peddling the motor will kick in and boost you speed so that you can peddle comfortably while maintaining a speed of about 15 mph. Even up hill, you may not go 15mph but you do about 5 - 10 (depends on the hill) which is awesome. While riding my bike today I passed all the other bikers on the trail while going up hill and I watched their faces becomes confused because they have no idea how I look so calm while moving faster than the rest of them. It was awesome!
The only reason why I say to purchase this bike at REI is because they have the latest models and they offer free professional assembly if you do in-store-pickup and free shipping. Their website might say that the bike is 2g's but sometimes they have a bike special of 20% off.
In conclusion, I love this bike and it seems like it will last me a long time.
EDIT: according to google maps, my bike ride was about 12.5 miles and the battery is at least 2/3rds charged

Many of the problems that were described in previous posts made sense to me becasue I had the same issue.However, it was not until I read the instruction manual and realized that I improperly assembled the fork( shock) backwards on the bike which led to poor braking and the wheel ultra close to my legs. Since the adjustment no problems. Shifts great, brakes well. Brought it into a shop for final once over. May help for others.

(More customer reviews)I bought this as a Christmas present hoping that Amazon.com would pull through and make a special holiday for my girlfriend's son. Amazon.com delivered in style and exceeded my expectations. However.... We waited till Christmas morning to open the box. The bike was in great shape except there was a seat post clamp missing and the crown nut for the handle bar yoke was damaged. It looked to be damage that was done when the bicycle was originally packed at the factory as exterior of the shipping box was in great shape. As per the instruction manual we contacted the customer services about the missing parts rather then Amazon. It took 3 tries to get them to ship us the correct parts as the manual was too generalized to provide an adequate description to the mechanically challenged support person on the phone. Had the manual been better written I'm sure that this would have not been an issue. I will say that the customer service folks were very courteous and did their best to get a resolution to our problem.
I gave this bike 4 stars as it is a great value for the money paid. Amazon.com service was great and support from the bicycle manufacture was good.

Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

I chose the free shipping and originally Amazon estimated it to be delivered two weeks after I put in the order. It actually came one week later and I was able to track it through UPS after Amazon sent me the tracking number. I feel that I got a great deal since there was no tax and no shipping charges -- I also saw the price go up $15 in less than a week.
It came almost fully assembled -- thank goodness! My brother said he would help but I found that it was best to go to a local bike shop to put on the wheel and handlebars. At the same time, they made sure it was adjusted properly and in safe working order. Although I got it done for free (it was through a friend), I would have paid $20-25 to have make sure that it is done properly.
I live in New York City -- this past weekend was beautiful weather here and I asked my kids if they wanted to go bike riding in Central Park. My son, which I found out later, was scared to get on his new bike because he thought it was too big for him. I took it instead (I'm 5'5") and it was a pleasure to ride. I may add that I haven't been on a bike in many years. I wasn't sure if it was too big or would I understand how to use the gears, but everything went fine and it was perfect, especially with the adjustable seat. It rode very smooth and I really enjoyed it. I probably will order the same bike for myself as I don't have one currently.
I think since he sees that I was able to ride it, he is less scared of trying it. I would highly recommend this bike and it was a very good experience ordering something through Amazon -- my first time.

(More customer reviews)I bought this basket about six months ago to use on the bike I ride into campus. I usually put about 10 pounds of stuff into it (a 5 lb computer, bag, and maybe a book or two). I am now looking to replace the basket. The problem is that there is only one real area of attachment/connection with the bicycle -- at the top where there is a bracket connecting the basket to the bike. So if you put something weighing more than a couple of pounds in the basket, all of the weight is on that top bracket, causing the basket to tip forward (it's tipped so far forward a couple of times that it's actually *dropped* my bag with my computer in it!). If you'll notice with other baskets there is usually a point of contact with the bike not only at the top but also at the bottom of the basket...this ensures that the basket doesn't tip and can actually support the weight of the contents of the basket. That this basket lacks that second point of contact is, in my experience, a serious drawback.
I'd say that if you need a basket to carry very light things - perhaps a towel and a gym bottle, or some light produce or something, then this is a perfectly fine basket. But if you need it to carry anything at all substantial (more than about 5-7 pounds) then look elsewhere.
