THE FRONT WHEEL WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND THE BRAKES WERE DEFECTIVE. A BICYCLE REPAIR SHOP SAID IT WOULD COST $70 TO GET IT READY FOR RIDING. SO, I RETURNED IT AND BOUGHT AN AMAZING USED BICYCLE FOR $80.

Mongoose Maxim Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Review

A Mongoose is NOT always the 1500 to 3500 dollar bike that we adore. Recently I bought a mongoose for under 200 bucks. It came with what I call cheap wheels and tires very similar to those found on cheaper bikes..When you pay under 200 bucks you can't expect to get the stainless spokes and an almost perfectly tuned bike. I am guessing but I believe most of the cheaper Mongoose bikes may have some generic parts. For example my tires look like cheap 10-15 dollar tires. They are stamped with the load range at 198 Lbs.. HOWEVER, for a low priced bike I am HAPPY with mine and the tires are holding up well. I had to tune the bike and will soon take it apart and grease the bearings and cables. Both derailleurs front and back were not set correctly and she shifted like a dog. The front tire wobbled so badly it would rub on the brake shoe with each revolution and setting the hand brake was almost impossible. I fixed it by simply truing the wheel using a small wrench on the spokes and adjusting the derailleurs. This is easily done. I simply loosen the spoke that pulls the tire off to the side and tighten the two on the opposite side. I make small adjustments at a time until she is fixed.. I tuned the bike and now I LOVE her. Mine has 27 speeds.. I am 62 years old and still buff. I weigh just over 200 lbs. In granny gear this bike pulls hills very slowly and yes it takes some getting used to.. If you tune this bike and take care of it I believe you will get your money's worth unless you end up with a real lemon. It's best to consider what you want this bike to do before you buy. I tool around on the farm on mine and ride trails up to 3 or 4 miles a day just for exercise. If you want professional, pay out the yang, yang..If you want a bike to enjoy in your leisure time then this baby may work for you and save you big bucks too.

Mongoose Maxim Women's Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Review

I love my 7 yr old sister but she should never be given the task of engineering a bike and now I know the same is true for whoever designed this little gem. Let me start off by saying, prior to this purchase I have always been satisfied with all my Walmart, K-mart, Crapmart bikes I've owned over the years. It doesn't take much to satisfy me in the bike department so for me to rate a bike one star says a lot. My boyfriend put the bikes together (we also purchased the men's version of this exact bike). It took awhile to get the brakes adjusted just right but overall everything seemed alright. He got on first and as soon as he turned out of the parking lot I heard the sound of his foot skidding along the front tire. At first I thought his size 13 feet were the culprit, but then I got on my bike and sure enough my size 7s were sliding down the tire as well. Turns out that anytime you turn the bike the front tire comes within two inches of the front of the petal. So if you're someone who thinks their feet may hang at least two inches off the front of the petal don't buy this bike. It's almost as if the frame of the bike was designed for a child and then they just threw on adult tires, seats, and handle bars. Within 5 minutes on the bikes we both agreed these bikes must go back. I'm still baffled as to how these bikes passed the legal requirements required for bicycles. I don't know what the requirements are but dang! Talk about low standards! These bikes are a lawsuit waiting to happen. On the bright side, because I purchased these bikes from Amazon directly I got a full refund including shipping cost. Oh Amazon!... how I love you so...

Head deep into the great outdoors with the Mongoose Maxim women's 26-inch mountain bike. The Maxim is equipped with a full-suspension frame that maximizes comfort and performance, along with a suspension fork that smoothes bumps and increases control. The bike's linear pull brakes, meanwhile, provide sure stopping power on any terrain. Other features include 21-speed SRAM twist shifters, a Shimano rear derailleur, a three-piece crank, and lightweight alloy rims.
About Mongoose In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame.
The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs).
In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look.
In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose's brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.

Huffy Women's Granite Bike Review

To the reviewer that said their feet hit the tire... I had that same problem at first and it took me less than half a second to realize I had the forks pointing the wrong way. They come like that in the box to make it fit. Loosen the handlebar and rotate the forks to point FORWARD and it works great. The brakes are a bit tedious to assemble over the wheels, which were a tad warped. with a little work, its not that hard to "unwarp" a bike rim. The seat is not good, its like sitting on a contoured brick, so we replaced it after the first ride. So why did I give it 5 stars you might ask? I expected this bike to be this bad. It was cheap! It IS easier to go to the big blue store and buy one already put together though, but this way I didn't have to drive anywhere.

Huffy Men's Mojave Gulch Bike, Gold/Maroon, 26-Inch Review

Well the bike was kinda a pain to put together, it came with an instruction booklet that had universal instructions including other types of bikes like comfort bikes, or road bikes, it wasnt just for mountain bikes. it was to small for me i am 6 foot 2 and i felt i was too big for the bike. the gears shifted very badly and the gears would slip in every gear accept for a certain one. When you hit any type of bump you could feel the front shock bottom out and hit hard. when i opened the box the seat was already very dirty, being a white seat i guess it would be dirty very easily but not brand new and unopened, and the seat was very uncomfortable but you cant expect the stock to be good. overall I would most likely not suggest buying this bike but i dont know, i could have possibly had a bad product. I like the look of the bike alot though, but that was the only good part that i experienced with this product.
after i returned this bike i went to a bike shop and purchased a trek 820, much higher in price but there is no comparison in quality of the products.
