Giro Atmos Racing Bike Helmet Review

Giro Atmos Racing Bike Helmet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In 20 years of road and mountain biking I've had 3 Giros, 2 Bell, and 1 Louis Garneau helmet. This is hands down my favorite. It's the lightest and breathes the best. Even on a recent ride in 94F / 65% humidity / Sunny, my head didn't feel hot. (well, hotter than the rest of me, it was a pretty brutal ride to be honest)
It's super light and very comfortable. You barely feel it on your head.
The reasons I knock it down to 4 stars:
1) Pads are quite sparse and in particular they don't cover the forehead very well. There's also a gap in the center. For me this means that sweat runs into my eyes - as it evaporates it's not sweat but concentrated salt water. Ouch! (Other helmets I've had with larger forehead pads delay this issue. There are head bands on the market for this exact issue, however)
2) The rear plastic head straps are covered in a rubber coating, which cracked within a month or two - doesn't affect the function or comfort as there is a stronger plastic material underneath, but a disappointment given the price.
3) On the underside there are 3 small areas where the foam is melted or looks like it was attacked by a solvent - surface defects really, and you never see it. Doesn't affect function or external appearance but at this price I guess I expect more.
My helmet was from 2008 when they still included a rigid carry pod. Apparently they don't make this anymore, which is a shame since it is a super nice feature - protect your helmet, carry your gloves, Gu and Powerbars too (It was well ventilated so things don't get stinky). - you can still get them on Ebay though...Specialized now makes one too but the Giro one looked nicer.
If you've found this review to be helpful, please let me know!

The Giro Atmos bike helmet continues to set the standard for high performance, matchless style, and comfortable fit. The Atmos offers such features as a proprietary in-mold design that provides the strength to support 26 cooling vents, a benchmark in-mold roll cage, and a low-profile silhouette. The vents are particularly comforting, as they work in tandem with an intricate network of internal channels to create a cooling system dubbed Wind Channel ventilation. The upshot? The Atmos is one of the coolest helmets around, making it a top choice for road, 'cross, and XC riders alike.
Ionos Technologies The Atmos employs a number of advanced Giro technologies. The Atmos' in-mold construction, for example, fuses the helmet's outer shell with the impact-absorbing EPS liner. Not only does this reinforce both layers, but the "exoskeleton" allows Giro to engineer helmets that are lighter, more durable, and better ventilated. This culminates in the helmet's proprietary Wind Tunnel ventilation system, which combines active vents with internal exhaust channels that thrust cool, fresh air over and around the rider's head while forcing heat and stale air out. By definition, a channel is a route through which anything passes or progresses. In the case of Giro helmets, the internal channels are carefully crafted and are one of the keys to a well-ventilated helmet. This significant increase in air channeling makes a difference that riders will feel immediately.
Reinforcement and Fit The Atmos also includes a roll-cage reinforcement--a tough web of DuPont nylon molded inside the helmet's EPS foam liner. This reinforcement provides an extra measure of strength and integrity that you'll never even notice--unless you need it. Finally, the Atmos helmet is engineered using Super Fit technology, making it so comfortable that it virtually disappears when you put it on. The proprietary three-size Super Fit system is based on "human scale factors" data and nearly 20 years of crafting helmets for the best riders in the world. The result is a helmet that fits 98 percent of the world's population, yet looks and feels like it was made just for you.
The Atmos helmet weighs only 275 grams and complies with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets.
Helmet Tips You should always...
Wear a helmet when you ride
Wear your helmet low to protect your forehead
Fasten your buckle and tighten your chin strap
Check your adjustments every time you wear your helmet
Inspect your helmet regularly for signs of wear or damage
Wear a helmet designed for your activity

About Giro Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Plus, it was half the weight of traditional helmets. Giro Ionos Road Bike Helmet Review

Giro Ionos Road Bike Helmet

This is an excellent helmet and it works too. I gave it a crash test last month when I was hit by a car (I was doing 25 mph) and hit my head hard on the asphalt. The helmet didn't break or crack and I didn't suffer any type of head injuries. I was so impressed, I replaced it with the same model. The fit is great and I wore it on a 200 mile one day ride without any discomfort. It isn't a cheap helmet, but what kind of price do you put on your life?
The Garmin color isn't bad either.

The Ionos is the most technologically advanced road cycling helmet Giro has ever created. The Ionos is built around a proprietary in-mold composite sub-frame (ICS) that provides the strength to support 21 of the largest vents ever carved into a bike helmet. These massive vents, coupled with an intricate network of internal channels, creates a cooling system dubbed Wind Tunnel ventilation, making Ionos the coolest, best-ventilated helmet on the market. The helmet is perfect for keeping Grand Tour champions like Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador cool on the hottest days and over the most tortuous Alpine climbs.
Ionos Technologies The Ionos helmet employs some of the most advanced technologies that Giro has ever used in a bike helmet. The Ionos' in-mold construction, for example, fuses the helmet's outer shell with the impact-absorbing EPS liner. Not only does this reinforce both layers, but the "exoskeleton" also allows Giro to engineer helmets that are lighter, more durable, and better ventilated.
The secret behind the vent technology is the in-mold composite subframe, which lets Giro offer huge vents without compromising protection. The Ionos features a visible weave of carbon reinforcement that runs through the helmet's liner and around the vents. By using these advanced materials, the sub-frame can be tuned to provide incredible structural support, impact dispersion, and resistance to penetration.
Padding and Fit The Ionos offers X-Static helmet padding, which is entwined with an environmentally friendly silver-coated fabric called Silver Fiber. Found exclusively in Ionos helmets, the fabric provides anti-microbial and thermodynamic benefits, so in addition to keeping you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, your helmet will stay fresh all year round. Finally, the Ionos helmet is engineered using Super Fit technology, making it so comfortable that it virtually disappears when you put it on. The proprietary three-size Super Fit system is based on "human scale factors" data and nearly 20 years of crafting helmets for the best riders in the world. The result is a helmet that fits 98 percent of the world's population, yet looks and feels like it was made just for you.

Giro Skyla Sport Bike Helmet Review

Giro Skyla Sport Bike Helmet
Average Reviews:

Having owned many Giro helmets, and currently having a high end model, this is an excellent Giro for the price. The expensive models really give you huge vent openings, but this one is pretty good. The styling is excellent and the dial fit adjustment is comparable to the RocLoc system of the higher models. If you need a nice bike helmet at a good price, this is certainly a great choice.
However, make sure you measure your head! This is listed as a universal fit Womens model, which is a total joke. I bought this for my 3 year old daughter, who has a head that measures more than mid-way in the fit range, and it fits her great. On the other hand, my wife who wears a medium Giro Monza, a not-uncommon size for many women, could never fit into this helmet and it almost looks like she's trying to fit a kids helmet on her head. Obviously this will fit many women, but don't read "universal sizing" and order without measuring your head. The Skyla fit range is 50 to 57 cm. In comparison, a medium Giro helmet is 55-59cm (Roc-loc limits) because it also has a larger shell. By the way, the Giro Flume children's specific model has the same fit range of the Skyla of 50-57cm, and the Giro Rodeo toddler helmet is 50-55 cm.
When a Womens helmet has almost the same range as a toddler helmet, you know Giro is trying to limit the number of women who will fit into this helmet, forcing many to move up to the more expensive models that come in sizes; and there are some good reasons to buy the expensive models like fit, Roc-Loc system quick adjustability, and increased air flow.
But if your head fits, its a great helmet at a good budget-friendly price.

Giro Hex Bike Helmet Review

Giro Hex Bike Helmet
Average Reviews:

Pros:
Air ventilation is truly excellent, fit is snug and comfortable, feels very light, the visor does not chatter in the wind, the helmet's design is fairly stylish.
Cons:
The straps often need to be pushed away from the back of my ears, the rubber part of "overmolded arm" on the RocLoc system inside the helmet interferes with the back tips of my glasses. The helmet is used mainly for my daily commute. The RocLoc system makes the helmet fit well but at the expense of not being able to wear sunglasses comfortably. I wanted to try the Giro brand after I wore out my excellent Bell X-Ray helmet. When this Giro Hex wears out I will replace it with a new Bell X-Ray.

Giro Transfer Sport Bike Helmet Review

This is a very comfortable helmet with a nice fit. Most of the helmets you'll find in this price range don't fit well. Believe me, I've tried a number of them. But this one fits me great.
One small piece of advice: It has a more rounded appearance from the front than most bike helmets do. So if you don't like the thought of a "round" look when someone's looking at you straight on, this might not be the helmet for you.

Giro Stylus Bike Helmet Review

Giro Stylus Bike Helmet

After trying many different brands and styles, I actually purchased this bike helmet in the store. I really like the adjustment disc on the back strap to get a perfect fit but I really didn't want an all black helmet; afterall, if I have to wear such an ugly hat in public I want it to look as cute as possible! I was so happy to find this "women's" style on Amazon! I received the package 2 days earlier than estimated and it is exactly what I was looking for. (The black one is going back asap.) Hopefully the white color (with gold outlined butterflies and silver inside the butterfly wings) will keep me a little cooler in the sun and more visible at night. I'm a happy-stylin' cruiser now!
