Transformers 2 Optimus Prime Boy's Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Transformers 2 Optimus Prime Boy's Bike (16-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hi there- I can't believe someone actually had a 5 star review of this bike.
A little background-
I never review because it is time consuming , but this was too compelling. I have a 4 year old who adores Transformers- we got this bike for his birthday and he was in love. The design is perfect. And that is where the love affair ends.
The bike arrives in 100 pieces and expect even an experienced PAPA (my hubby) to spend a few hours constructing this. In the end, he had to go to Home Depot twice for missing screws and hardware and then he actually had to bend the "fork" on the wheel to get it to go together. My hubby is an engineer not a moron, and this project was tasking.
But it gets even better...
We had it for a couple months with rare use and one day, the left pedal came right off, while my son was riding- as it turned out the inside was stripped. We brought it to a bike repair shop, hoping they would have an answer and I can bet you know what they told us.
THE BIKE IS TRASH. There is no replacement of the stripped piece because it is the actual frame of the bike- good luck getting that piece from the foreign manufacturer, too.
Needless to say, it is going out in the trash on Friday- what a bummer!

Kettler Bingo Kids' Bike (12-Inch Wheels) Review

Kettler Bingo Kids' Bike (12-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Kettler makes a heavy duty product. We loved our Kettler tricycle, and so we bought the bike, even though 12" bikes can be had for half the cost. The verdict is-- this is a VERY sturdy bike. It is as attractive as the picture makes it seem. The covered chain and padded handle bar are great. HOWEVER, this bike weighs a ton. I think my 4.5 year old would have had an easier time learning to ride a lighter bike. He can do it, but this bike is very heavy. I'm not sure the sturdiness is worth the extra effort.
Another Flaw-- the training wheel nuts become loose ridiculously easily, making a horrible rattling sound until they are tightened again. Thank goodness we're done with training wheels! I thought I would lose my mind from the noise.

Put your child on the saddle at an early age with the Kettler Bingo kids' training bicycle. Featuring a high-carbon, step-through steel frame construction, 12-inch pneumatic air tires, and detachable training wheels, the bike helps kids safely discover the pleasures of an outdoor bike ride. It's also safe to ride on paved streets thanks to the closed chain cover and the padded handlebars, which give kids a little extra cushioning should they falter. And because the pre-preschool years are too early to introduce the misery of modern bike seats, the Bingo comes with a padded seat for comfort. Other details include a coaster brake on the rear tire, a front hand brake, and front and rear reflectors. Made in China, the bike is a must for the entry-level bike rider.

Polaris Edge LX160 Kids Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Polaris Edge LX160 Kids Bike (16-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say that is is a great bike for your little boy to learn on. My boy is 3 and is an average size for his age, and this bike fits him perfectly.
PROS:
- Has a pad on the top bar (very important for little boys learning to ride)
- Has a full chain guard...not just on the top of the chain
- Has chunky tires that aren't too narrow
- Very easy to assemble out of the box (although the directions aren't for this exact bike)
- Seat looks a bit awkward in the picture, but it is actually a good design and holds your little ones bottom in the correct place
- A nice color red that isn't too flashy, yet stands out enough for others to be able to see your child when riding (not like a black or darker colored bike, which is hard to notice on a street)
CONS:
- Manual & directions aren't for this exact bike (looks like the company has 1 manual & includes it with all of their bikes...and it is for adult bikes)
- My biggest gripe - the fenders shown in the picture are NOT the ones that come with the bike. I have listed a picture of the bike we have showing the difference in the fenders. It is not a huge difference, but the ones that come with it do not wrap around the top of the tire as much as the stock photo shows, which makes them essentially pointless in keeping the tire splash angled downward - and they don't look as "cool" because they don't have the holes in the side giving a "beefier" look. :(
- No reflector for the back of the bike, only front (which isn't a huge deal because I plan on putting a flashing LED, but something worth mentioning).
**UPDATE**
Seems the bike has a few things that were redesigned on it...so my picture was removed. I still don't like the fenders that come on the bike now. But I am happy to report that the bike is still in great shape over 2 years later!!

Huffy Toy Story Boys Bike, Blue/Green, 16-Inch Review

Huffy Toy Story Boys Bike, Blue/Green, 16-Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my boy's 4th birthday. I chose it because he's a Toy Story fan and his older brother has the Huffy Spiderman 16 inch bike. The Spiderman bike has held up well after a year of use, so I trusted this one would as well. It arrived promptly, in good shape and I opened it up to begin assembly (which I dreaded). In typical guy fashion, I pulled out all the parts and decided to try putting it together without reading the instructions. Much to my surprise, I had it together and ready to ride in about 20 minutes! The only tool I used was an adjustable wrench. The tires were about 1/2 full, so I topped them off. The bike seems to be of good quality and I expect he will outgrow it before it breaks down. This was an upgrade from a smaller bike for him, so he says this one is really fast! He's spent about 3 hours on it so far with no issues. Low price, good quality, big smiles from a happy kid...can't beat it!

The bike is equipped with such features as a bold steel diamond frame, a screen-printed saddle with a quick-release height adjustment, and sure-stopping coaster brakes. The real centerpiece of the bike, however, is the Toy Story artwork, which you can see on the frame, front handlebar bag, and handgrips. And to keep your child riding safely while he learns to balance, the Toy Story bike comes with easy-to-remove training wheels. The bike carries a lifetime warranty on the frame and a six-month warranty on parts.

Kawasaki KX12 Girls' Bike (12-Inch Wheels) Review

Kawasaki KX12 Girls' Bike (12-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Was looking for a quality tyke bike. Am satisfied with the purchase of this one.
Only drawbacks I found on this were:
** Tacky decals (which easily peel off)
** White tires (which do not stay white for long).
** Loose wheel spokes (tighten while assembling.... most bikes come that way out of the box so it isn't a problem unique to this bike)
On the plus side:
** Has a coaster brake. Liked the look of the Red Ryder, but that one has no brakes.
** Full chain guard. Cheaper bikes seemed OK, but most had no chain guards. Fingers and an open sprocket/chain does not seem a good combination
** Ball bearings in all the right places. Maybe the factory lube is good (?), but I redid them with synthetic lube to be sure.
** Heavy duty build. Good welds and apparently beefy tubing in the frame. Weighs a little more than the cheap bikes for that reason, but it isn't heavy.
Overall, a good choice for a bike and at a decent price.

M-Wave Child's Wooden Running Bike (Police) Review

M-Wave Child's Wooden Running Bike (Police)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this wooden bike for a preschooler. In less than a year of use I have had to replace the bolts on the steering/front wheel assembly three times. We used a similar wooden running bike made in Germany to teach a whole neighborhood of children (more than 6 preschoolers in a single month) to ride a two wheeler and never had to repair a single piece. This bike has needed a special air pump because the intake gauge is so close to the spokes. Our other pump would not fit. We bought a box of the hex-metric bolts at Home Depot and needed everyone of them to replace ones that have been loss in use. The blue knob on the handle broke off after repeated dropping on the sidewalk, when our little guy jumped off the bike to chase another thought. The seat is difficult to move up and down, requiring two hex drivers and disassembly of two bolts. This makes it difficult to share with different height children. I would pay more for a lower maintenance running bike with an easy seat adjustment, if I had it to do all over again.

Schwinn Scorcher Boys' Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Schwinn Scorcher Boys' Bike (16-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before reading this, please understand that we sold our car last summer, so our family uses bikes for every-day commuting, be it to/from work, to/from preschool, or just grocery shopping. Bikes are less "toys" for us, than hard-working transportation that must function well!
We got this for my son for the holidays, just before his 4th Birthday. There were some issues with the manufacturer that delayed shipping, but the seller made herculean (and successful!) efforts to make sure the bikes all arrived by Christmas.
My husband assembled this bike late Christmas Eve in the livingroom. While the manual was less than helpful for this (Schwinn, apparently, makes one general manual that covers all types of bikes, and therefore doesn't feel it necessary to make model-specific manuals -- or assembly instructions!), he was able to get it ready in a reasonable amount of time. Like all bikes, it comes with the tires deflated, so I had to take it to get air in them. (Perhaps this is why one reviewer complained the tires were fat and soft?)
I was immediately impressed with how sturdy the bike is. Strong. It looked cool -- it was also going to withstand anything my son was likely to put it through in the years to come!
The first time my son tried it, we discovered the training wheels were set too low: The rear tire wasn't making enough contact with the ground to give "drive". A two-second adjust, and that was fixed.
The low "rise" in front of the seat makes it easy for little boys to get on. The combination of coaster and hand-brakes gives many options for learning to stop. One unexpected "bonus"? The front pegs actually keep the weight of the bike OFF the body during falls!
We've had the bike for one month now. He's gone from shakily riding to the corner while I strolled slowly next to him, to riding it to school (a 3-mile trip).
PROS:
* Sturdy contstruction
* "real bike" quality
* coaster AND full-caliper brakes
* Reflectors
* Quick-adjust seat
* Front pegs make falls safer (who knew?)
* Bike is tall enough for an adult to "walk" without breaking their back
* Can easily keep up with an adult on a full-sized bike.
CONS:
* My son's hands are not yet LONG enough to use the caliper brakes, because the levers are so far from the handlebars.
* Handlebar structure makes it difficult to mount a basket
* Training wheels are loud. (But, then, all training wheels are loud.)

Barbie Ride with Me Barbie Bicycle (16-inch) Review

Barbie Ride with Me Barbie Bicycle (16-inch)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, so I want to make it very clear that I am not reviewing shipping. The box came pristine. No dents, tears, or other marks of rough treatment. The way the bike lays in the box during shipping is fine, the fork is laid flat so I can't figure a way being crushed during shipping could be at play.
So the kids have gone to bed, mom is taking the presents out of the closet to place under the tree. Meanwhile I begin the seemingly easy task of assembling this bike. It's really simple. Put on the seat, the handlebars, and the front tire. Buuuuut there's a huge problem: the front fork of the bike is pinched. It's about an INCH too narrow to allow the connection of that front tire. Living in an apartment with no access to a machine shop I have no tools or equipment to bend this thing back into position, especially at 10pm. It's a total show stopper for this gift.
Everything about the bike seems to be of decent build quality. It has a few more things to put together than the other kids bikes I've assembled.
I'll update this review if the replacement bike is so stellar that it overrides the failed xmas morning. My advice is to open this thing up as soon as you get it and assemble it to make sure it's going to go smoothly for you. If its not you'll need time to order and receive a replacement.

Spider-Man Bike (16-Inch Wheels) Review

Spider-Man Bike (16-Inch Wheels)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this bike for my five year old son for his birthday. We were unable to find a Spiderman bike at any of our local stores, so we decided to make an online purchase. The price was very low, and we received free shipping which was great! The bike arrived quickly, even though we had chosen super-shaver shipping. There were some issues with the bike. Once the bike was put together and our son tried to ride it, we realized the front and back wheel were badly warped. So much so, that the rear wheel rubbed against the brake very badly to the point that my son couldn't pedal the bike. We were pretty disappointed to say the least. However we called the warranty number in the booklet that came with the bike. I was told how to submit my request for new wheels by e-mail, and did so. We received the two new wheels within days of my e-mail request and were able to put them on his bike. The new wheels are great, and we are having no more problems with them. I'm not sure if maybe the wheels were damaged during shipping (as the box the bike arrived in looked slightly beat up), or if this was a manufacturer's problem. Anyway, the problem was resolved and the new wheels were free of charge.
One other problem I would mention with this bike, but that isn't a real big deal, was that the front faceplate that fits onto the handle bars fell off. The little plastic zip ties that hold it on, broke immediately. They were very brittle. This isn't a huge problem, as the bike looks fine without the plate. But we will need to purchase some new zip ties to put the plate back on.
I normally would have given this bike a 3 in the review, but decided to give it a 4 because our warranty needs were met immediately, and to our satisfaction.

My 3 years old son loves it since he is a Cars freak. Nothing special about this bike other than it is blight red and it is a Lightning McQueen. Assembled easy, but the manual is worthless.
